Magnificent post. I sure hope she was able to get her grandson out of that middle school. That's the most difficult school situation and can be an absolutely hideous age, IMO. I think if I were her (and the boy's parents agreed), I'd homeschool him through 8th grade and then find a private high school for him. Anything but public schools in their area, apparently.
I homeschooled high school and it was actually a lot of fun and a great experience. I know a lot of people hesitate to homeschool during the high school years and you do have to keep transcripts but it was a GREAT experience for us.
