Department officials "were a little overzealous" in deciding that homeschool certificates do not count as high school diplomas.

Bruce Opie, legislative liaison for the Department of Education, told the committee that department officials "were a little overzealous" in deciding that homeschool certificates do not count as high school diplomas. But he insisted that "it has not been out of malice or any mean-spiritedness on our part."

  1. Well, then, that's OK. As long as you didn't intend to be mean and completely screw up peoples' lives. No problem. Right?

  2. What totally blew me away was the guy that had completed college courses, but they fired him because he had a homeschool diploma.

  3. What if we fire everyone who received their high school diploma under pre-NCLB standards?

That would make as much sense as this and we'd all be sure our doctors and lawyers and plumbers were truly qualified! :)

  4. Oh don't forget all the people who got their GED, I guess we need to get rid of them too. Even if after obtaining their GED they went on to college and got a degree.

  5. Oh and what about kids who started college early and never received a High School Diploma?
