  1. Well, I am less than thrilled that some folks don't think that those who hold to certain ideologies should be allowed to earn high school diplomas, but at least Steve is being a good sport and acknowledging his lack of insight into the home education world.

  2. I am also less than thrilled that he failed to acknowledge that many public school students are learning intelligent design.

  3. That's a good point, but I don't see the harm in information about ID being disseminated. After all, I am a Fundie Baptist, and I teach my kids about evolution and Islam and we read Fahrenheit 451 and Catcher in the Rye. It is knowledge, pure and simple.

Public education, in that it is a mass market enterprise, so to speak, attempts to impart information without showing bias or 'indoctrinating' students. The problem is that this is just not humanly possible. We all bring our experiences and prejudices and insights to our interactions with others. This is why it is important to teach kids how to think instead of what to think.

  4. Intelligent Design is really just dressed up Creationism and doesn't really belong in a biology classroom.

I do think it makes a great topic for a political science class or a debate class.

You are absolutely right that if public schools spent more time teaching students to think for themselves it wouldn't be a problem.
